Sustainable Investment Roadmap
Climate Investing in the V4 Countries

The Visegrad Group (or V4) countries of Poland, Czechia, Hungary and Slovakia bear the burden of high carbon intensity due to the high share of coal, gas and oil inputs into their energy mix and in many major industries. Their remarkable economic growth in recent decades has been accompanied by extensive use of these fossil fuel resources. The associated negative externalities and a high dependence on non-European energy and commodity supplies have left the region in a delicate political, economic, and strategic position.

Can climate investing strengthen the political, economic,
and strategic position of the V4 region?

This Sustainability Investment Roadmap provides a unique comprehensive insight into sustainable investment areas in the V4 countries. It focuses on climate investment areas in all the region’s high-greenhouse-gas emitting sectors:

  • energy,

  • road transport,

  • local heating,

  • agriculture,

  • chemicals,

  • cement industry,

  • waste management,

  • and steel production.

The report highlights the areas of investment suited for speeding up the transition to climate-sustainable growth, and provides ideas for accelerating or removing barriers to this transition. It serves as an inspirational resource for public and private investors and other stakeholders to identify and evaluate the potential of climate-sustainable investment areas in the V4 countries.
