Sustainable Transition

Overview

The European transition to carbon neutrality by 2050 is particularly challenging for Central and Eastern European countries, which still have carbon intensive means of energy production, antiquated heavy industry and agriculture. The inevitable phase out of coal mining and combustion will bring about fundamental changes in the market and will impact regions dependent on mines and power plants.  These changes need to be an inclusive process, delivering social justice for workers, communities and consumers and will require significant investments.  Through the investment pillar of the European Green Deal, the Sustainable European Investment Plan, the European Union has developed investment mechanisms in the Just Transition Fund and the Innovation and Modernization Fund that will channel billions of Euros into the CEE region over the next EU budget period. Translating these numbers into visible impact and tangible change will require a multi-stakeholder approach. The ISFC will use our extensive network of experts and internal resources to bring together a wide spectrum of stakeholders to assess where and how Just Transition funding can best assist impacted communities.
